Blackcubanlinks is back and these Georgia girls are ready to share their magic with the world.
The alternative rap duo, comprised of artists Alina and Zenia, said they’re eager for listeners to tap into their latest EP titled ‘Atemporal’.
“I am absolutely head over heels with this project,” Alina said. “I’m so happy for everyone to hear what we’ve been working on. We did not release music for a whole year. So yes the break was serious.”
Alina and Zelina met in high school through their shared music tech teacher. The pair would often bounce ideas off of each other, eventually crafting their eclectic and refreshing 90’s/early 2000s-inspired sound.
“We try literally any sound for our music so we don’t get comfortable sounding the same,” Zenia said. “Usually the concept that I rap around is that I smoke and what’s going on in the world. Like go roll up, open your eyes. Go read so you can ask questions. Ask more questions.”
Through songs like “Pretty Lady “ and “Hands Tied” the duo hopes to provide listeners with a unique sound that lifts their spirits and makes them feel good. The group said they’ve also been expanding on the topics they want to get into.
“We want them to listen to us when they’re smoking,” Alina said. “We want them to have joy and feel good vibrations. We want them to listen to it with their friends with the windows down.”
“We hope this makes people want to go read up on what’s going on in their country and around the world,” Zenia said.
While both are inspired by a variety of artists across genres, Alina said she is most inspired by her band-mate Zenia.
“She never gives up on me and she always pushes me to be more because she believes in me and knows I am more.”
The duo blends freestyle and formal writing throughout their songs and said they both find writing and musical expression to be therapeutic. Beyond that, the pair is also cool with just enjoying themselves and encouraging listeners to do the same.
“Music is just so fun and enjoyable,” Alina said, “ Life would be so drab and boring with no music. Music is so powerful. It is literally magic.”
